With the first match well and truly lost to the Warriors the pressure was on to redeem ourselves. So with teams of just 10 players each, we went all out to get the result we needed. The Warriors are good and as the results came in, the threat of losing never went away. It was going to be close! The final result was 3 and 2 to the Vets. Well done lads. A great result
The day started with just a hint of rain, but the weather decided it was business as usual. Seventeen Vets and three guests attended the day, all looking for good golf and high scores. As with all courses at the moment, conditions were not perfect, but despite that some high scores were achieved. Congratulations with an outright win to Kevin an impressive 37 points, to Mike Addley, Front 9 with 20 points and Paul Carter…
With well needed rain overnight and the temperature a little more normal, the team met up with our friends at Addington Court for what turned out to be a great day of golf. The rain had not made much difference to the course and the slopes continued to take the ball miles off target but then both teams suffered that fate! Back for ham, egg and chips and stories of the day were heard around…
We managed 8 people for each team which is good for our annual match vs the Coulsdon Ladies. Once again the day was getting hotter by the minute and a decision was made that each team could retire if they felt it necessary due to the heat. The first team out managed to complete the course but the remaining teams came in at the 13th. A welcome drink and a lunch helped and the presentation…
A later start to our return match with the Wombles of Wimbledon Common, or as they prefer to be known “The WAGGS”. With a nice cup of coffee and the introduction over it was out into the heat of the day to do battle and try to retrieve some credibility after our home loss to them. It was not to be! After a lovely 2 course lunch and a poem from our guests the final…
This day was going to be the hottest yet. With temperatures into the low 30’s, even before the first tee, we all knew that we had a long day ahead of us. The bacon butty and coffee helped to motivate the teams but with a late tee time of 9.30 we struggled into the heat. The course was like the Serengeti, without an lbex nibbling at our ankles! For one of our members the heat…
AWAY Match vs Chipstead 15th May. A great day hosted by North Downs. The course was in great shape. The weather was kind to us.The North Downs team were very friendly and the meal was massive! However the golf was not so good. With one win and one halved match we suffered a loss of 4 1/2 to 1 1/2. Must get in the swing for our next match. HOME Match vs Addington Court 18th…
We started the day with a full team after using up all of the reserves. Gathering in the hotel for introductions, bacon baguettes and coffee we introduced the teams. With the sun shining and the weather looking better the first team were on the tee. Some slow play meant lunch had to be delayed till mid afternoon and once over, it was down to the scores. Another 4 1/2 to 1 1/2 loss but we…
With 8 teams descending on Shirley Park it really felt like it was going to be a great day. The usual welcome with coffee, a bacon roll and introductions, and it was off to a two tee start so that we could all get round and back in time for lunch. The weather was good to us and we all had a great day. With the meal over the results were in. It was a…
There was a full house of 12 men champing at the bit for our first Match in 2026 at Woldingham. Always nice to see a friendly team eager to show off their amazing course, and it didn’t disappoint. With the groundsmen out earlier than us making sure of perfection, the first team led by our captain was on the tee and the match was on. The weather held but the wind was bitterly cold. It…
